Seismic fragility assessment of building-type structures in oil refineries

A seismic fragility assessment methodology is presented for equipment-supporting reinforced concrete and steel buildings that are typically encountered in oil refineries. Using a suite of hazard-consistent ground motions reduced-order models, incremental dynamic analysis performed to obtain the demand structural systems examined. Appropriate drift- floor acceleration-sensitive failure modes considered define limit state capacities supporting structure nested non-structural process equipment. Special care exercised on capacity representation components, offering transparent roadmap undertaking analytical typical an refinery. The findings proposed can be exploited by designers facility managers mitigating risk prior occurrence earthquake event, designing pertinent structures their components means risk-aware performance-based methodology, or as feed data early warning systems.
